So Anna Olson has a new show called FRESH.
Okay, I did enjoy SUGAR on Saturday mornings when I could get up early enough and survive the infommericals. For those of you who might not be familiar Sugar, was 100% baking pastries, cookies etc. Not sure how long it ran for, maybe a season or two, but in my opinion was a 'fantasy cooking show' (meaning I enjoy watching the show and fantasising about cooking - or in this case baking the ingredients, but will never execute the recipes because the ingredients are too exotic, too expensive or too calorie/fat laden). SUGAR was just that - decadent to the max baby! Back then Anna was much more uptight and shall I say Martha Stewart-ish, complete with the light colour scheme. The set lighting and accessories on the show were if you were ascending into the heavens - I had to turn away at times from the light!!! The light! And the treats - she must've had buckets of lard under that counter...it was as if you'd already died from clogged arteries and were observing a God baking cookies in the afterlife. But she was sweet then.
What I could not stand was the KITCHEN EQUIPPED show Anna hosted.
Okay so onto SUGAR. Well times have changed for Anna. The Food Network Canada has completely 'vamped her' up. She's got a tonne of make-up on, and I see she has transitioned her white blonde hair to bright yellow...almost too yellow. It's as if the 'SUGAR Anna' has passed away, she's been brought back from the dead, the mortician has touched her up and things appear a little unatural. She's a very pretty lady, but they've went way overboard and she's lost her natural appeal. She also had a very low cut shirt on and a few times I was distracted...even though I'm female and straight, I was still distracted by the cleavage. Also the sexy new look is in complete contrast to her personality, which seems innocent and genuine - so it's just wrong what the Food Network has done!!! They did this to Laura Caulder as well but I'll get into this in my next entry. Again there is definately some rigid vibes from Anna with this new show. She's a bit too delighted about her recipes in one of those 'Leave-It-To-Beaver-gosh-darnit-golly-geez' sorta ways. But beneath all that caked make-up (pardon the pun) and the rigidness I do see in her eyes the passion for food and I respect that, but it's just gone off the rails.
